Our organisation in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, Bauchi State government and other stakeholders in Imo state has done quite a number of projects, including the "Back2School Initiative." SEYDI has also been engaged in several projects through the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Youth Empowerment in the 36 States of the Federation and Abuja.
SEYDI works in partnership with several other organisations to provide innovative solutions to critical social and economic challenges among our target groups, and provide them with the support and recognition necessary to strengthen their social and economic positions.

Rationale For Establishing SEYDI

  • Research has shown that each year, an estimated 15 million Nigerian children are out of school due to violence, terrorism, communal and intertribal wars, religious extremism, loss of families, and the poor state of schools' infrastructure. These traumatised children suffer depression, nightmares, loss of self-worth, and eventually constitute the agents of future aggression. Going by a study by the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF), one of the world’s five out-of-school children is a Nigerian, and 13 million children are out of school in Nigeria.

But all children around the globe, no matter where they come from, have the right to inclusive, equitable and quality education, in reference to the SDG (4). A forecast of the Nigerian population by Statistica, projects the figure of 400 million youth by 2050, and a preliminary report released by Nextier and published in the ThisDay of January 14, 2023, states that the Nigerian youth aged 18-34 account for 70% of the voting population (active population). Again, the increasing rate of unemployment as proposed by KPMG would be up to 40.6% in the year 2023 compared to 37.7% in 2022, and low standard of living will not only pose further socioeconomic decline within the nation, but also increase the rate of emigration, poverty and in overall insecurity.

It is for these foreseeable emergencies that SEYDI was conceived to mitigate some of them by ensuring that our youth who are the major force for sustainable development and key agents for social change, economic growth and technological innovation are empowered to be active participants in their personal as well as national growth and development.
